The official mascot for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi is Shera, an anthropomorphised tiger. Shera was first introduced to the people around the globe at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in 2006 held in Australia.

Shera the mascot is the face of the Delhi Games and exhorts everyone to come out and play. Sports Minister Dr MS Gill launched a song dedicated to Shera to celebrate enthusiasm for the Games, on September 9, 2010. Chak de Shera, as the song is titled, has been chosen to be performed at the Games opening ceremony on October 3, 2010.

The official theme song was launched on August 28, 2010. Jiyo Utho Bado Jeeto (Live, Rise, Ascend, Win) composed by music maestro AR Rahman is call to the people and athletes of India and the Commonwealth to come out and play.

Commonwealth Games Traditions – Official Shera Song

The song ‘Shera’ is conceived and produced by Vikramjit Singh Sahney and Raksha Dhawan. The music composer is Jeetu J. The song has been sung in Hindi and English by Vikramjit Sahney, Shibani Kashyap and Millind. The song is produced by Sun Foundation, a charitable institution.

The song which has a peppy tempo reflects the spirit of Shera, representing majesty, power, charisma and grace. It will generate excitement in the masses and urge everyone to join in with healthy spirit of the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010.

The Shera song is a mix of traditional Punjabi dholak and rock-n-roll style drum-guitar combo with balance of both Hindi and English lyrics. The song will appeal to both Indian and International audience. The soul of this song is rooted in the cultural heritage of Punjab.

Further the composer of the song has mentioned that the proceeds from the sale of this song will be donated to the government for the welfare of sports.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games are the nineteenth Commonwealth Games. The Games are scheduled to be held in Delhi, India between October 3, 2010 and October 14, 2010.
