Today marks the 69th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He was assassinated on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse who held him responsible for the partition of India. For this evil deed Godse was hanged on November 15, 1949. Martyrs’ Day in India, is observed at the national level on January 30. The Nation pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi and other martyrs who gave their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom on January 30 every year.

Today marks the 120th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He was born on January 23, 1897 in Cuttack, Orissa to Janakinath Bose and Prabhabati Devi. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose (January 23, 1897 – unconfirmed) was a Indian nationalist and leader of an independence movement during the 1930’s and 40’s. He sought the support of Germany and Japan and led an Indian national political and military force to fight against British imperialism in India during World War II. He was one of the most prominent leaders who struggled for India’s Independence from British rule, and is a legendary figure in India today.

He used his pen-names of Ghalib (means ‘dominant’) and Asad (means ‘lion’). His honorific was Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula.

Twitter (born ‘Twttr’) was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Ev Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass. The public launch of what was to soon become the world’s most popular online social networking service happened a few months later on July 15, 2006. On March 21, 2006, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey posted the first ever tweet, when the service was called ‘Twttr.’ He tweeted, ‘just setting up my twttr.’
