Every year, the 21st of August is observed as Senior Citizens Day across the world, including India. August 15, 2017 marks the 71st Independence Day of India. Search giant Google dedicated its latest artistic doodle to the Independence Day of India 2017. The doodle includes a motif of Indian Parliament, a symbolic wheel for the Ashoka Chakra and two India’s national bird peacock in the colours of the national flag, saffron, green, white and blue. The word ‘Google’ is displayed across the Parliament House, made out of ribbons of the Indian tricolour. The doodle has been designed by a Mumbai based artist, Sabeena Karnik, who is known for her paper technique artwork.
Krishna Janmashtami or simply Janmashtami, also known as Krishnashtami, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanti, Saatam Aatham, Dahi Handi, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu. It is observed according to Hindu lunar calendar, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Shravana (overlaps with August and September of the Gregorian calendar). Janmashtami falls on August 14 in 2017 for Smarta Sampradaya. For Vaishanava Sampradaya and ISKCON Janmashtami falls on August 15 in 2017.
Khudiram Bose was an Indian Bengali freedom fighter, who was the youngest revolutionary early in the Indian independence movement. At the time of his hanging, he was 18 years, 8 months and 8 days old. He was born on December 3, 1889 in the village of Mohoboni at Keshpur Block in Paschim Midnapore district of West Bengal. Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki were chosen by Barindra Kumar Ghosh and tasked with the murder of Kingsford, the District Magistrate of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Prafulla shot himself dead, and Khudiram was arrested. He was hanged to death at 6 am on August 11, 1908.

It is the eleventh edition of the Women’s Cricket World Cup, and the third to be held in England.
