Facebook – Security (Message Scam)
Facebook users should be on the look-out for various scams spreading on the popular social networking site. Facebook scams have victimized many users from time to time. Scam victims should resolve their issues, and share their experience with others.
I received a phishing message on my Facebook account today from a user called Jenny Wilson whom I do not recognize. The message was sent from Facebook Chat.
Phishing is a way of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

See the screen grab below:
As I don’t have any friend by that name, I did a Facebook search for the name. There are hundreds of users by the name Jenny Wilson.
And good many of them are suspicious protected accounts with no information, friends or posts.
See the screen grabs below:
As I am not sure from whom I received the chat message, I can not report and/or block so many suspicious persons.

I advise message scam victims to resolve the issue by going from the top right-hand corner of your Facebook profile to:
Privacy Settings > How you connect > Who can send you Facebook messages?
Control how you connect with people you know by choosing one of the three options that suits you.
- Everyone
- Friends of friends
- Friends
I have now restricted messages only from my friends. If you receive message scams, do not reply to such messages. Ignore and delete all such messages.
You may share your experience, if any, writing your valuable comments on this blog post.
