10th Birth Anniversary of Facebook

Facebook is the world’s largest social network, with over 1.15 billion monthly active users. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004. On February 4, 2014, Facebook celebrates its 10th birthday.

Currently valued at $135 billion, Facebook is set to become the fastest company ever to reach $150 billion.

February 4, 2004: Facebook Launch
Mark Zuckerberg and co-founders Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Eduardo Saverin launched Facebook from a Harvard dorm room in 2004.

Its initial purpose was to connect Harvard College students. It later expanded to Stanford, Columbia and Yale, and was available on 800 US college networks a little over a year after its debut.

June 2006:
Facebook had 14,083 million total unique visitors.

September 2006:
On September 26, 2006, Facebook opened up its registration to anyone with an email address. Its traffic jumped 270 percent to 52,167 million total unique visitors by June 2007, leaving it the second place social networking site behind MySpace that year.

June 2008:
Facebook grew exponentially by another 153 percent to end the year with 132,105 million total unique visitors, placing the site in the top spot. Then, by March 2009, Facebook was ranked the ninth hottest web property with 61,224 million unique visitors.

June 2009:
Facebook surpasses News Corp.’s Myspace as the leading online social network in the US.

December 2010:
Facebook rose to No. 4 on the Top 50 hottest website properties of 2010 with 153,886 million unique visitors.

October 2012: One Billion Facebook Users
Facebook had topped the 1 billion active user milestone.

Today, the statistics that define the site are as impressive as ever. Facebook has 1.23 billion users generating 6 billion likes and 350 million photos every day.
