The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup will take place between February 19 and April 2, 2011. The tenth Cricket World Cup will be hosted by three South Asian Test cricket playing countries: India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Bangladesh will be co-hosting a Cricket World Cup for the first time.
The opening ceremony will be held on February 17, 2011. The first match of the tournament will be played on February 19, 2011 with co-hosts India and Bangladesh facing off at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The final of the tournament will be played on April 2, 2011 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the international governing body of cricket. It was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from England, Australia and South Africa, renamed the International Cricket Conference in 1965, and took up its current name in 1989.
The ICC has 105 members: 10 Full Members that play official Test matches, 35 Associate Members, and 60 Affiliate Members. The ICC is responsible for the organisation and governance of cricket’s major international tournaments, most notably the Cricket World Cup.
