My India — 69th Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
Graphic Quote Art — Freedom Fighters & Martyrs Slogans
Today marks the 69th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He was assassinated on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse who held him responsible for the partition of India. For this evil deed Godse was hanged on November 15, 1949.
Martyrs’ Day in India, is observed at the national level on January 30. The Nation pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi and other martyrs who gave their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom on January 30 every year.
On this day a two minute silence is observed at 11 am throughout the country, in the memory of our father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi as well as other martyrs who have laid down their lives. The vice president, the prime minister, the defence minister, and the three Service Chiefs visit Raj Ghat to lay wreaths and remember martyrs. The armed forces personnel blow bugles sounding the Last Post. The inter-services contingent reverse arms as a mark of respect. The participants at Raj Ghat hold all-religion prayers and sing bhajans.
