Oracle Octopus Picks Spain to Win World Cup

Paul, the octopus oracle is predicting Spain will beat Netherlands

Octopus Oracle

Weekend Video Post – Octopus Oracle

Germany’s Octopus oracle Paul is predicting Spain will beat Netherlands in Sunday’s epic FIFA World Cup 2010 Final on July 11 by choosing a winning mussel from two jars in his tank. The mollusc also predicted Germany would beat Uruguay in the consolation contest for the 3rd spot, and that has come true.

This World Cup, whatever forecasts were predicted by ‘Paul Octopus’, has proved right. This is the first time he has predicted in a game not involving Germany, so it would be interesting to see whether his psychic powers go beyond games involving Germany.

Spain who are the favorites, displayed thier best performance 60 years back in 1950, when they reached the quarter-finals.

  1. Well, according to wikipedia :

"The species Octopus vulgaris is almost certainly color blind; neither behavioral studies nor electroretinogram experiments show any discrimination of a color's hue.[13][14] Nonetheless, individuals can distinguish brightness as well as an object's size, shape, and orientation. Shelagh Malham of Bangor University states that they are drawn to horizontal shapes, and indeed, there are horizontal stripes on the flags he has chosen. The flag of Germany, a bold tricolor consisting of three equal horizontal bands of black, red and gold, is Paul's usual favorite. But the flag of Spain, with its broad yellow stripe, and the flag of Serbia, with its contrast of blue and white, are more vivid still, possibly explaining why Paul picked those countries over Germany"

That may be the reason to all this, however blaming an octopus for the disaster would be wrong. Spain won by pure good football. Cheers/
