Sitara Devi (November 8, 1920 – November 25, 2014) was an eminent Indian dancer of the classical Kathak style of dancing. Her performances on and off the silver screen revived popular interest in the classical dance of Kathak. Over the years, she performed all over India, and at prestigious international venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1967; and at the Carnegie Hall, New York in 1976. Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das (November 5, 1870 – June 16, 1925), popularly known as CR Das, was a leading Indian politician, a prominent lawyer (Barrister), a major activist of the Anushilan Samiti, a non-violence nationalist of the Indian Independence Movement, a poet, and founder-leader of the Swaraj (Self Rule) Party in Bengal during British occupation in India. He was affectionately called Deshbandhu (Friend of the Nation). He was born in Calcutta on November 5, 1870.He passed away in Darjeeling on June 16, 1925 with a severe fever. Mahatma Gandhi led his public funeral procession.
Today marks the 87th birth anniversary of Abdul Qavi Desnavi (November 1, 1930 – July 8, 2011). He was an eminent Indian writer, literary critic, bibliographer and linguist of Urdu language. Today marks the 187th birth anniversary of Nain Singh Rawat (October 21, 1830 – February 1, 1882). He was one of the first of the late 19th century Indian explorers (pundits) who explored the Himalayas for the British.
