The Beating the Retreat Ceremony is conducted in the capital city of Delhi in India on the evening of January 29, the third day after the Republic Day, and marks the culmination of the Republic Day festivities. The annual musical extravaganza is performed by the bands of the three wings of the military, the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The venue is the imposing Vijay Chowk square at the foot of the Raisina Hill on which the British-built Rashtrapati Bhawan stands.

Google celebrates India's Republic Day with a BSF camel contingent doodle.
In honor of India’s 67th Republic Day, Artist Robinson Wood created today’s Google Doodle as a tribute to the camel contingent of the Border Security Force (BSF) that patrols the India-Pakistan border. The colourful doodle shows men on top of six elaborately decorated camels. Each of the six camels carries a letter of the word ‘Google’ on its golden caparison.

Trailanga Swami (reportedly 1607 – December 26, 1887 CE) was a great Hindu yogi and mystic famed for his spiritual powers. For most of his life he stayed in Varanasi, India. He is regarded by devotees as an incarnation of Shiva. Swami Ramakrishna referred to him as The Walking Shiva of Varanasi. According to some accounts, he lived a very long life of around 280 years.
