The Beating the Retreat Ceremony is conducted in the capital city of Delhi in India on the evening of January 29, the third day after the Republic Day, and marks the culmination of the Republic Day festivities. The annual musical extravaganza is performed by the bands of the three wings of the military, the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The venue is the imposing Vijay Chowk square at the foot of the Raisina Hill on which the British-built Rashtrapati Bhawan stands.
