Today marks the 113th birth anniversary of Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa (December 29, 1904 – November 11, 1994). K V Puttappa, popularly known by the pen name Kuvempu, was an Indian novelist, poet, playwright, critic and thinker. He is widely regarded as the greatest poet of 20th century of Kannada literature. He was recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India. He is the first among Kannada writers to be decorated with the prestigious Jnanpith Award.
