India celebrates 68th Republic Day 2017 today. Search giant Google dedicated its latest non-animated doodle to the 68th Republic Day of India. The doodle shows a stadium full of people lined with the three colours of Indian flag: saffron, white and green. The doodle shows one-half of the stadium, with the crowd on two corners, while a saffron-coloured band runs along the inner periphery of the semi-circular track.
While India’s Independence Day celebrates its freedom from British Rule, the Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force. Today marks the 68th Republic Day of India. Republic Day commemorates the date January 26, 1950 on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. It is one of the three national holidays in India.
In honor of India’s 67th Republic Day, Artist Robinson Wood created today’s Google Doodle as a tribute to the camel contingent of the Border Security Force (BSF) that patrols the India-Pakistan border.
