Twitter Status — Down for Maintenance

The micro-blogging site Twitter is down again but this time for planned network maintenance for a period of five hours between 11PM PST and 4AM PST (7AM GMT to 12 Noon GMT). Their hosting provider is upgrading a portion of their internal network starting July 31 at 11PM Pacific. The maintenance will last approximately five hours. During this time, some users are unable to use Twitter.

During this maintenance period, when some users tried to login to their twitter account, they saw the maintenance page (not the notorious Fail Whale), as pictured below:

Twitter is currently down for planned maintenance.

We expect to be back in a few hours. Thanks for your patience.

They published about the scheduled maintenance well in time on Twitter status blog that provides updates on the status of the Twitter service:

Twitter’s hosting provider, NTT America, will begin scheduled maintenance at 11:00PM PT/06:00AM UTC. This maintenance will last approximately five hours.

During this maintenance, there will be periods of time when some users are unable to use Twitter. We do not expect these periods will last for the entire maintenance window.
