The popular blogging platform WordPress has reached an important milestone as it now powers more than 50 million sites, about half of which are hosted on WordPress.com.

WordPress.com began in May, 2003 as a service that hosts WordPress blogs. They have updated their official stats page to count WordPress installations as well as WordPress.com blogs.

According to WordPress.com official stats:
Over 285 million people view more than 2.5 billion pages on WordPress.com each month.
WordPress.com users produce about 500,000 new posts and 400,000 new comments on an average day.
