Memorable Events – Past and Present

Nike’s awesome three-minute World Cup video advert titled “Write the Future” seems to be the fans’ one of the best football commercials, with over 17 million views on YouTube despite its recent release on May 17.

The entertaining video ad, directed by renowned Hollywood director and producer Alejandro G. Iñarritu, features several of the game’s great stars including Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Wayne Rooney, Fabio Cannavaro, Frank Ribery, Andres Iniesta, Landon Donovan, Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, along with cameos from Roger Federer, Gael Garcia Bernal, Kobe Bryant, and Homer Simpson.

The fictional football briefly reveals football’s future with hidden revelations and images, and a mix of creativity and humor. Drogba, Ronaldinho, Rooney and Ronaldo amongst others are ready to Write The Future, carve their name in history. One touch, tackle or free kick could crush a nation’s hopes or cause them to build a statue in your honour.

In it, the players imagine their alternate futures if they hit or miss on the field. Rooney, for instance, misses a pass and finds himself a bearded outcast, living in a rain-soaked mobile home eating slop out of filthy cooking pot.

Even non-soccer fans will love the scene where Ronaldo greets Homer Simpson at his front door and nutmegs the ball through his legs: “Ronal-D’oh!”
