Currently, under Article 15(4) of the Constitution, 15% seats are reserved for SCs and 7.5% for STs in centrally funded higher education institutes. The government will introduce the controversial OBC (Other Backward Classes) quota in central government-funded educational institutes like IITs, IIMs and some Medical Institutes. Reservations will be not only for MBBS but also for MD and MS. IITs and IIMs may get additional seats as the Planning Commission has already sanctioned money, central universities unlikely to get extra seats, fate of medical schools uncertain.
