Most Spectacular Pictures of 2013

Hundreds of beautiful cranes take flight, obscuring the sky by a lake in northern Israel. The incredible picture was taken by Liron Hamelnick, 29, at Hula Lake Park. The majestic birds use the lake twice a year as a brief stopover from Europe to Africa.

This unforgettable image manages to capture three dolphins as they appear to be ‘flying’ above the water in South Africa. Lucky photographer Grant Atkinson spotted the friendly mammals playing in the surf off the coast of Cape Town.

This is the dramatic moment lightning strikes the Grand Canyon. Photographer Rolf Maeder had been on his way to snap the sunset in Arizona, America, but noticed thunderclouds rolling in above him. Before his eyes a lightning storm attacked the ancient rock of the Grand Canyon, allowing him to snap this unforgettable picture.

The heart-warming photograph shows an incredible bond between a WILD lioness and the men fighting to save her species. The amazing picture shows Sirga – a 110 lb lioness – and one of her adopted pride Valentin Gruener and Mikkel Legarth.
Incredibly she treats the two men just like she would other lions and with their help she can now hunt for prey on her own.

Ingrid Loyau-Kennett, 48, was dubbed the ‘Angel of Woolwich’ when she stood face-to-face with the knife-wielding men accused of soldier Lee Rigby’s murder. Cub scout leader Ingrid, who later received a bravery medal, calmly confronted the alleged killer in the aftermath of the attack.
