World Health Day – 7 April 2010

World Health Organization (WHO) is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system.

In 1948, the First World Health Assembly called for the creation of a “World Health Day” to mark the founding of the World Health Organization. Since 1950, World Health Day has been celebrated on the 7th of April annually.

Each year a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of concern for WHO.

This year’s theme is 1000 Cities, 1000 Lives
With the campaign 1000 cities, 1000 lives, events will be organized worldwide during the week of 7 – 11 April 2010.

The global goals of the campaign are:

  • 1000 cities: to open up public spaces to health, whether it be activities in parks, town hall meetings, clean-up campaigns, or closing off portions of streets to motorized vehicles.
  • 1000 lives: to collect 1000 stories of urban health champions who have taken action and had a significant impact on health in their cities.

Then tell the world about it!

Hear inspirational stories and learn how individuals are contributing to the health of thousands in their city.

Customise

Once your basic campaign has been created, we give you options to powerfully customise it. You can alter the default tweet and Facebook update sent on behalf of your Twibbon campaign’s supporters.

Choose a Twitter account for them to automatically follow and Facebook Fan Page to join. And when they’ve worn the Twibbon, you can even redirect users to your external campaign page.

Promote

Once you’ve created your campaign, it’s time to get the word out. Whenever a user wears your Twibbon we automatically send an update on their behalf, which will tell all their friends about your campaign.

Studies show that users are 90% more likely to act on peer recommendations so this is key to a campaign’s success. Promote the Twibbon wherever you can on external websites, newsletters and blogs to expose your Twibbon to as many people as possible.

Benefit

Generating followers and fans, building hype and increasing exposure are just a few of the benefits of a Twibbon campaign.
