K V Puttappa, popularly known by the pen name Kuvempu, was an Indian novelist, poet, playwright, critic and thinker. He is widely regarded as the greatest poet of 20th century of Kannada literature. He was recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India. He is the first among Kannada writers to be decorated with the prestigious Jnanpith Award. Today marks the 220th birth anniversary of Mirza Ghalib (December 27, 1797 – February 15, 1869). Mirza Ghalib, was a prominent Urdu and Persian language poet during the last years of the Mughal Empire. He used his pen-names of Ghalib (means ‘dominant’) and Asad (means ‘lion’). His honorific was Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula. Mirza Ghalib breathed his last on February 15, 1869. His tomb is located near Chausath Khamba, Nizamuddin area in Delhi. On November 7, 2017, Twitter, the world’s most popular online social networking service, expanded the traditional 140-character tweet limit to 280 characters to make it easier for people to fit what they are thinking into a Tweet. Despite Twitter’s new character limit of 280, tweetstorms, a series of connected tweets, remained in use. On December 12, 2017, Twitter, the micro-blogging site with 330 million monthly active users, officially introduced an easier way to Tweet a thread. The new feature called threads allows people to more easily post tweetstorms.

Today marks the 104th birth anniversary of Homai Vyarawalla (December 9, 1913 – January 15, 2012), commonly known by her pseudonym ‘Dalda 13,’ who was India’s first woman photojournalist. Her pseudonym comes from the year of her birth, 1913, and the Dalda from her car’s registration number DLD 13. She was known for widely photographing India’s transition from the British Raj to an independent country after its subsequent partition. She was born in a Parsi family on December 9, 1913 at Navsari, Bombay state, British India. She breathed her last on January 15, 2012 at the age of 98 at Vadodara, Gujarat. Today marks the 153rd birth anniversary of Rukhmabai Raut (November 22, 1864 – September 25, 1955), also known as Rakhmabai Raut, who overcame numerous obstacles to become one of the first practicing women doctors in British India. She was born in Mumbai, then Bombay, on November 22, 1864. She was a child bride, married off at the age of 11, to Dadaji Bhikaji, 19. She did not stop with medicine, choosing to become a social reformer until her death at the age of 91, on September 25, 1955.
