Google +1 Button Now Faster

The +1 button will now render up to three times faster on your site

Google Feature – Google +1 Button

The +1 button on your site allows your users to recommend your site to their friends, potentially bringing in more qualified traffic from Google search. Google have announced two simple updates that will make both the +1 button and the page loading it, faster. One of the factors that affects Google’s ranking of your site is page load time.

Firstly, they have begun to roll out out a set of changes that will make the +1 button render up to three times faster on your site than before. For this you don’t need to do anything.

In addition, they have also introduced a new asynchronous snippet that allows your web page to continue loading while your browser downloads the +1 JavaScript. For this you need to upgrade your present code to the new version.

Google’s Software Engineer, David Byttow, announced on Google’s Webmaster Central Blog on July 26, 2011:

The +1 Button: Now Faster
One of the 10 things we hold to be true here at Google is that fast is better than slow. We keep speed in mind in all things that we do, and the +1 button is no exception. Since the button’s launch, we have been hard at work improving its load time. Today, we’re proud to announce two updates that will make both the +1 button and the page loading it, faster.

For those of you who have already implemented the button, you will need to update the code to the new async snippet, and then you should see an overall improvement in your page load time.
Note:
You should only include the +1 JavaScript once, either using the standard way or the asynchronous way.
Tip:
For the best performance, put the new async snippet right after the last +1 tag.
To generate the new async snippet, use +1 Configuration Tool.

The code without the async snippet looks like this:

The code with the async snippet looks like this:

The code with snippet should be included below the last <g:plusone> tag on your page for best performance.
