100th Birth Anniversary of IBM

US technology pioneer and world’s 14th most valuable technology company IBM celebrated its 100th birthday on June 16, 2011.

IBM was founded as the Computing Tabulating Recording Corporation (CTR) on June 16, 1911 with the merger of three firms: the Tabulating Machine Co., the International Time Recording Co. and the Computing Scale Co. of America.

CTR was renamed International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) in 1924.

IBM claims to hold more US patents than any other company, and five of its employees have won Nobel Prizes for Physics.

IBM has posted to the company’s official YouTube channel a video to mark the occasion that highlights some of its achievements.
