LinkedIn – New Features

LinkedIn Profile Custom Background Photo

LinkedIn profile looked dull as you couldn’t add any background image. Now, if you want your profile to stand out, add a custom background photo that appears above the top section of your profile. This feature was already available to premium members, and now LinkedIn is slowly rolling out to free members.

LinkedIn had announced on their official blog on June 4, 2014 several new visual updates, including a custom profile background for premium members only.

New ways to visually enhance your profile: We want your LinkedIn profile to reflect your unique brand. To enable a more personal feel, we have incorporated several new visual updates to help you stand out, including a larger photo and expanded profile header, early access to a new custom profile background, and an exclusive gallery of beautiful background images should you need a little inspiration.

Note: Sorry, waitlist is closed now. But stay tuned – over the next few months, LinkedIn will be letting all members add a custom background on LinkedIn.

I had signed up on the waiting list for early access. Yesterday, I got the offer from LinkedIn to add the custom background photo to my profile. The following message appeared on my profile page:

Make your profile stand out with a custom background
Try an image that represents your school, profession , or cause you care about.
Recommended size at least 1400 x 425 pixels.
(Use a JPG, PNG, or GIF under 4MB in size. Resolution of 1400 by 425 pixels looks best.)

Background Photo Option

If you want your profile to complement your professional brand, you may upload a custom background photo. I have created a custom background photo with brand name, logo, and keywords in Photoshop as per LinkedIn guidelines.

If you have the option to add the background image, you may upload your custom photo by logging into your account and selecting Edit on your profile page. You will see the option to upload an image where the custom background should be.

After uploading your custom photo, you may need to drag to reposition the image so that it looks the way you want. If your background is okay, you may save it. Otherwise, you may remove it or change it.
