Today marks the 219th birth anniversary of Mirza Asadullah Beg Khan ‘Ghalib’.
Mirza Ghalib (December 27, 1797 – February 15, 1869), was pre-eminent Urdu and Persian language poet during the last years of the Mughal Empire. He used his pen-names of Ghalib (means ‘dominant’) and Asad (means ‘lion’). His honorific was Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula.

He was born as Mirza Asadullah Beg Khan in 1797 in Agra, once the capital of Mughal rulers. He moved as a teenager to Delhi, where his poetic talent blossomed in the court of Bahadur Shah Zafar, Mughal emperor at the time.
Ghalib, the last great poet of the Mughal Era, is considered to be one of the most popular and influential poets of Urdu and Persian language. Today Ghalib remains popular not only in India and Pakistan but also among the Hindustani diaspora around the world.
He died in Delhi in 1869, leaving behind a rich legacy of poetry that continues to inspire. His Shayari (poetry) is so popular that people often used to quote them in their daily life.
