Social Media – LinkedIn
Weekend Video Post – Privacy Controls
LinkedIn was officially launched on May 5, 2003, and operates the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with more than 100 million members. The mission of LinkedIn is to connect the world’s professionals to enable them to be more productive and successful.
Being part of LinkedIn means sharing information about yourself with other professionals, communicating with them, as well as working privately on your own. By default, your account is set up to share the information. But the amount and type of information you decide to share, and with whom you share it, is up to you.
You can review, enhance or edit your personal information through your personal profile page; control the messages you receive from LinkedIn and other users; and change your settings to control visibility and accessibility through LinkedIn.
You have control over what you share, and you can update information at any time.
LinkedIn Privacy Controls Guide
If you are using LinkedIn as part of your online networking and visibility plan, review your privacy controls.
If you have a LinkedIn user account, as you log in, your account Settings is located in the upper right corner of your home page.
Once you click on Settings, you are taken to the Account Settings page.
If you press the Profile tab you will see besides other settings, the four key Privacy Controls:
- Turn on/off your activity broadcasts
- Select who can see your activity feed
- Select what others see when you’ve viewed their profile
- Select who can see your connections
You select the privacy controls one by one, and set them and save as per your needs. The privacy controls open up as pop up windows, and see the screen grabs of these settings:
Krishna De, an award winning brand engagement strategist and author, uploaded a video on YouTube on Jun 24, 2011 that is perhaps the most current video on this subject.
