Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das (November 5, 1870 – June 16, 1925), popularly known as CR Das, was a leading Indian politician, a prominent lawyer (Barrister), a major activist of the Anushilan Samiti, a non-violence nationalist of the Indian Independence Movement, a poet, and founder-leader of the Swaraj (Self Rule) Party in Bengal during British occupation in India. He was affectionately called Deshbandhu (Friend of the Nation). He was born in Calcutta on November 5, 1870.He passed away in Darjeeling on June 16, 1925 with a severe fever. Mahatma Gandhi led his public funeral procession.
