Today marks the 85th birth anniversary of legendary actress Meena Kumari (August 1, 1933 – March 31, 1972), born Mahjabeen Bano. The multi-faceted artist was an iconic star of Hindi cinema. She was also a playback singer, and a talented Urdu poetess under the pseudonym Naaz. Tanha Chand, a collection of her poems was published after her death in 1972. Remembered as the tragedy queen, she is also called Female Guru Dutt of Hindi films and is often remembered as the Cinderella of Indian films.

Today marks the 113th birth anniversary of Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa (December 29, 1904 – November 11, 1994). K V Puttappa, popularly known by the pen name Kuvempu, was an Indian novelist, poet, playwright, critic and thinker. He is widely regarded as the greatest poet of 20th century of Kannada literature. He was recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India. He is the first among Kannada writers to be decorated with the prestigious Jnanpith Award. April 23, 2016 is the 400th death anniversary of William Shakespeare, famously known as the ‘Bard of Avon’. William Shakespeare was a renowned English poet, playwright, dramatist and actor as well. Google doodle celebrates the incredible work of William Shakespeare on his 400th death anniversary. The doodle features the bard in the middle, with four illustrations of his famous works on either side of him.
