Twitter Applications – Bot DB

A robot or simply a bot is a piece of software designed to complete a minor but repetitive task automatically and on command.

Twitter bots are special twitter users that provide you with useful information, and sometimes just plain fun stuffs. There are many types of twitter bots – announcements bots, direct message bots, game bots, reply bots, etc. Many are nice bots, helpful ones like MrMilestone (@MrMilestone), but there are also spam bots and angry bots.

TheTwitterTagProject have collected all known “Bots” that are running on Twitter.

You may view their entire collection, listed alphabetically – Complete List (613 bots)

If you want to validate any of your followers whether it’s a bot or human, you may search their database. I did so when I received two suspiscious DMs. Many people use Truetwit validation service for twitter before they follow back someone. I personally find the service highly annoying and I treat the Truetwit DMs as spams. I never respond to these DMs, and don’t mind if they don’t follow back. Ironically, this bot is also using Truetwit validation as you could see from the text of these 2 DMs.

Once I followed the link to Truetwit, I got the following message:

Truetwit

Then I searched this user in the Bot Database, and it was confirmed that indeed it was a bot. I think instead of using the services of Truetwit and annoying and losing many of your prospective twitter friends, it would be better to use the search services of Bot Database.

Future Plans

Once they have a good list of bots, they plan to build a cool twitter application in future that will allow you to block/unfollow bots from your account!

Social Media consists of media that support and encourage social interaction among users. For instance, online discussion forums are designed to allow people to post messages and for other users to respond in kind.
While there may be social aspects to any medium (e.g. links to share an article by email), social media typically refers to those media whose major functions are oriented toward sharing of information, and consequently most of the information on such media are generated by users. Common examples of social media sites are Twitter and Facebook.
Social media marketing is the process of promoting your site or business through social media channels.

  1. I understand your concern with a bot using a service for malfeasance, but the service itself is not a spammer. They can't control what hijinks users undertake with their outbound message, unless they remove the ability to customize the content.

Or am I missing the point?

    • The service is annoying because even if I verify to satisfy your needs, they will start sending DMs to all those who follow me in future.
Just imagine if you receive dozens of DMs everyday to verify yourself till you succumb to their pressure and verify yourself. Isn’t it spamming?
Its perhaps ok if someone has less followers.

  2. I'm not sure it does anything, to be honest. i only get 'verifications' for like 3% of those who follow, and i dont care either. i just signed up so i could follow people. if you confirm it does nothing id disable it like *that*
