K V Puttappa, popularly known by the pen name Kuvempu, was an Indian novelist, poet, playwright, critic and thinker. He is widely regarded as the greatest poet of 20th century of Kannada literature. He was recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India. He is the first among Kannada writers to be decorated with the prestigious Jnanpith Award. Today marks the 220th birth anniversary of Mirza Ghalib (December 27, 1797 – February 15, 1869). Mirza Ghalib, was a prominent Urdu and Persian language poet during the last years of the Mughal Empire. He used his pen-names of Ghalib (means ‘dominant’) and Asad (means ‘lion’). His honorific was Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula. Mirza Ghalib breathed his last on February 15, 1869. His tomb is located near Chausath Khamba, Nizamuddin area in Delhi.
